esselless talks the benefits of mango butter

Before we get into everything, I gave essellesse a super kawaii spring edit makeover! Do we like?

I’ve been really into pastels {exhibit A} & wanted to bring it them on virtually.

OK now let’s get into it, shall we?!

MANGO BUTTER is a game changer.

My friend Katey actually sent me a brick of this stuff last year. She was raving about it & told me I have to try it.

She has a great post all about it here but TLDR she is hooked & so am I.

When I first got it, I asked her the best way to use the mango butter & she told me it’s so versatile but I can easily break a little off and rub it in.

So that I did.

However, I wasn’t completely sold. I LOVED how mango butter made my skin looked but I didn’t like the process of it: it was a bit gritty & slightly messy.

BUT- & I’m not even kidding, the mango butter made my skin beyond smooth & kind of gave it a natural “glow” if you will. I felt like it looked at least 5 years more youthful… so I wasn’t ready to give it up quite yet.

Through many text messages, she told me to give whipping it a try… so I did . AND I’M SO GLAD I DID.

Basically, I have the lotion of my dreams: in texture / scent / feeling. I’m obsessed. In fact, my favourite part of showering is now getting out and getting this on!

Before we get into everything, let’s talk Mango Butter a bit.

Mango butter is actually made from the seed or kernel inside the mango. That pit is FULL of antioxidants and nutrient dense fats. Who knew, right?! Anyways, that seed is extracted into a butter.

Since it’s the seed, there really isn’t much of a scent to it at all.

Here are some of the benefits of mango butter {source}:

packed with Vitamin A, Vitamin E, essential fatty acids, & antioxidants

naturally emoilient & shelf stable

non-comedogenic so it won’t clog pores

can treat & soothe sunburns & frostbite

combats dry skin – it helps your skin rebuild a protective barrier to your skin, especially as we age

can help sooth eczema and psoriasis

reduces fine lines & anti-aging: it’s full of vitamin A! {read more on vitamin A here}

can fight acne & be used as a nightly spot treatment

helps reduce the appearance of scars

As far as brands, the mango butter I’m using is from Better Shea Butter & I love it. It’s as clean & pure as you can get. Not to mention, it’s a Texas brand & I’m a proud Texan.

That brand as a whole is fantastic { & I talked about it here briefly }: I use their Rosehip Oil, Apricot Oil, & their whipped peppermint vanilla Shea butter.

This is not sponsored, but it was a gift from my friend. That said, if we are being honest, that’s my favourite way to discover new brands…not to mention, my love language is gifts lol !

Off topic but I actually want to make a blog post on this, my love language being gifts, because I do feel like it’s the most misunderstood one.

BUT that is a topic for another day!

You can go ahead and whip the mango butter on it’s own but I added an oil I am OBSESSED with these days {& deserves it’s own post}: Monoi oil from Tahiti!

I added this for the scent. In fact, it reminds me of Half Moon Bay.

I’m obsessed with the perfume Kai {which is what they use at the spa at the RC HMB} & the tiare flower is the main scent.

{ after }
{ old Trader Joe’s Body Butter container! }

This lotion is my favourite “base” & it makes EVERY perfume smell better.

My current go to perfume is SUN di Gioia by Giorgio Armani, but it also smells amazing with my two other favourites: KKW Body II {trust me on this – if you like beachy, coconut, you will like this}; & Lavanila Vanilla Coconut.

Whipping your mango butter is EASY! & minimal ingredients. All you need is: mango butter; a carrier oil of your choice {I used the Monoi}; something to blend it with & a container to put it in!

As far as a container, I reused an old Trader Joes Body Butter container!

mango butter

Monoi Oil

container to store

equipment you can use:

immersion blender {also seen in a similar technique here}

hand beater

you can even use a blender but be sure to clean it thoroughly afterwards

Create a double boiler. In a sauce pan, take about 2 inches of water over LOW heat. Using a heat proof container {I used a pyrex measuring cup but you can also use a mason jar}. Add mango butter & let melt. This will take about 20 minutes!

Transfer to a glass bowl & let cool in the fridge briefly. When slightly cooled {~20ish mins}, add 2-4oz of Monoi oil {depending how strong you want the scent}. Stir to combine & bring back to the fridge for about 1-2 hours {until solidified but not rock hard, you should be able to make indentions with your fingers easily}.S

Whip the butter until light & fluffy ~3-5 minutes! Using a spatula, transfer over to the container of your choice. Your mango butter is now ready to use! It will harden slightly after whipping but still very easy to apply.

when/where I like to use it

immediately after the shower

before bed

I also like to use a little in my hair to keep things sleek & tame fly aways!

before applying perfume, I dab a bit on my pulse points

note: depending on the carrier oil, it may make things slightly more “greasy” than your average lotion but your skin will DRINK IT UP. I like to put this on FIRST as soon as I get out of the shower. Then I do my crazy long skincare routine that deserves a post of it’s own lol. By the time I’m done, it’s basically absorbed… but I still have that glow I love!

Okay are you hooked on mango butter? I love it so much more than both shea & cocoa these days… not to mention, I love a good tropical vibe 😉

With the warmer temperature & extra sunshine, this is just SO FUN and I swear, it’s better than any oils I’ve used.

It’s also super versatile – add whatever you want!! But mine has a fun tropical vibe. When I’m out, I’m going to do a mix of Mango Butter & Pure Fiji Exotic Oil {OBSESSED with this brand – read more here but this oil is insane}.

Let me know if you give this a go!!

Any other fun lotions or oils you love? LMK!
