#SLSFILTERS || VSCO Recipe 003 :: free T1 Filter

Hi guys!!

SO sorry I’ve been so MIA. I’ve just been swamped with my full time job & well, health issues. I know I’ve mentioned this a few times, but we’ve been getting the ball rolling with allergy tests among other things to finally nix what it is that has made me feel so awful for oh so long. It’s strangely relieving but all that said, I haven’t had much energy over the past few weeks so I apologize for not being here!

To be a little vulnerable, when so much stuff like that is going on, I find it has been a bit hard to stay inspired or let alone edit an instagram photo.

THAT SAID, something that always inspires me is travel and we are traveling the next 2 weeks so I’m excited to get my groove back!

We are off to Los Angeles for the holidays again & then the week after, New York!

If you have any reccs, PLEASE let me know!! They are two of my favourite cities in the US so I am just excited to get back there & let that energy just flow.

Anyways, that’s all I got – how are you guys doing? Anything new?? OH! I’ve been working on my Spotify a lot and making some fun playlists. Follow me on spotify HERE 🙂

Let’s get into the VSCO Filter Recipe series! We are still working through the free filters that come with Instagram. Today we are getting faded over here 😉

VSCO filter :: T1

cost :: free!

The T-series is the Faded & Moody series. T1 comes free with VSCO, but you can get T2 & T3 in the Limited Edition Pack for $8.99. I mentioned that pack when I did the G3 series here but I highly recc getting it since it comes with my OG favourite series – the P-Instant.

As you can imagine, the T series has a heavy fade which can add to the drama of the photos. This one goes really well with darker images but to keep things to my aesthetic, I took a more “technicolour” route to it.

T1 lends a heavey fade and lower exposure. I generally lower the exposure, but here I upped it to lend a nice brightness to balance out the moodiness to it. To keep the matte-retro effect to the photos, I saved the highlights a significant amount. Since I am upping the exposure, this keeps things from getting too bright.

I was going for a cotton candy, technicolour look to this so I had fun with the saturation, tint, highlight & shadow tint. A positive tint gives things a pink hue, so I upped that almost halfway through (+6 is the highest you can go). On the same note, if you lower the skin tone, it also give things a pink touch, so I lowered it slightly. I tinted my shadows purple & highlights blue to keep things bright, cool, & complementary. I love adding blue highlights because it lends it that 90s TV look which I just love

Since I am keeping things blue, I lowered the temperature slightly to really complement the blue tints

Per usual, I added a slight kiss of grain & fade. I add this to almost every photo as I love how dreamy it makes it look. Since this filter is already SO faded, I just did a slight amount.

Enjoy! Let me know if you have any questions. xx Shannon

  • always missing Tokyo 💟 whenever I travel, I love to stalk the “{insert-city}photographer” hashtag. You find so much local talent and can connect and create content with that specific local vibe - in fact, I make a point to shoot with someone local at least once. That’s how I connected with @future_vizion - not only is he BEYOND talented {seriously, check out his profile}, he has such a unique eye and perspective... not to mention it’s kind of totally rad making friends around the world, especially in a city I’m so passionate about! #slstokyo
