Introducing the weekly filter series to help curate your insta-aesthetic!
filter :: C1
cost :: free!
This one from the Vibrant series is a saturated filter with a high contrast, pink tint with a blue shadow. It comes free with VSCO!
I love this at sunset, golden hour or blue hour. If you need to make it more warm, up the temperature a bit. In all my examples, I did not manipulate the temperature. 3 out of 4 were already warm pics but I included a cool toned one in the bottom right.
I find this recipe goes best with pink & blue tones in direct sunlight. It does well with colours and amplifies the saturation. For that reason, I added to the saturation as well.
Feel free to adjust as necessary. If the photo is too bright, lower the exposure. This filter already has a high contrast so I generally lower it to balance it out a bit – my aesthetic is low in general on the contrast level for that 80’s/90’s/y2k vibe.
Since this filter does well with bright, direct sunlit images, by saving the highlights (aka the + at the end of it), not only mutes down the harsh sun but adds a nice “retro” matte effect to it.
If you add to the tint, like I did here, it adds to the pink filter. if you go down on tint, it makes it more green. Since there is already a pink tint to C1, I wanted to amplify that.
For the shadow / highlight tint, I added more blue to the shadow and pink to the magenta to enhance the pink highlight and blue shadow it already came with.
Finally, I always love to add a kiss of grain & fade to every photo. I find it really adds a nice finishing touch and gives it a dreamy, hazy vibe.
Enjoy! LMK if you have any questions 🙂
