UNDER THE INFLUENCE: 2 BOOKS I CAN’T STOP READING BECAUSE OF EMILY WEISS

two books I ordered because of Emily Weiss, CEO of glossier: Wabi Sabi: Japanese Wisdon for a perfect Imperfect Life by Beth Kimpton & Rituals for Everyday by nadia narain & katia Phillips • essellesse, San Francisco lifestyle blog

So I figured this would be a fun semi-regular new series called UNDER THE INFLUENCE.

Basically, I’ll show things that I got “influenced” to buy from other online figures, bloggers, influencers, etc.

It’s a fun way to see who I like to follow, & what I’m buying these days.

Especially since Amazon makes things so easy these days, right?

Anyways, a few weeks ago, Emily Weiss {CEO/Founder of Glossier} posted a series of stories on her bath night. With that, was a stack of books but there were two that caught my eye…

I got on Amazon and hit purchase right away & in 48 prime hours they hit our door & my nose has been in them ever since.

As mentioned here, when it comes to books, I really like “non-fiction” & lifestyle books. I always get so much value out of them and get little things to add to my lifestyle daily.

The two books are:

Wabi Sabi: Japanese Wisdom for a Perfectly Imperfect Life by Beth Kempton

Rituals For Every Day by Nadia Narain & Katia Narain Phillips

I am still currently reading Wabi Sabi, but not only do I love it, Erik loves it too!

Aesthetically, Wabi Sabi a beautiful book. From the cover, to the pages, to the paper used. It’s exquisite.

It’s no secret my passion for Japan & the author shares that same love. There is so much we can learn from the Japanese. I feel like more now so than ever, we are constantly feeling the pressure of living an “imperfect life”. Not familiar? Just log into instagram.

Wabi Sabi is all about embracing the imperfections and finding serenity with it. It also parallels with her travels and studies in Japan & it will just take you on a mental vacation.

Rituals for Everyday… let’s just say I am bursting at the seams to talk about this one! I finished it in one day but constantly go back to it.

This is a book that has absolutely improved my life. Sure, some of the tips are a little corny but a lot of them are VERY accessible & easy to apply to your everyday life.

Immediately after buying, I implemented a few rituals to my daily & nightly routines. In fact, it’s funny I said routine since rituals basically make the routine more special. Think adding intention behind your routine & making it more of a celebration than a regimented routine. Many of them have been disconnecting more virtually and connecting more mentally & they have done wonders on my mental state.

It’s been a game changer for me & both books have added so much value to my life already.

I had to share these! As far as my personal routines I have implemented, I’ll share in a separate blog post

They go perfect with a bath too… may I suggest a Japanese collagen bath or these bath salts that they use at the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay?

Any books I need to check out? LMK! Always looking for more books. Next on my list is Self-Care for the Real World.

See ya tomorrow! x SLS
