{ #JAM }: Tourist – Together

TGIFF!

Oh, weekend. So good to see you. This has been one busy week on my end – how is everyone doing?

Personally, I’m exhausted. Very much looking forward to the long weekend & short week. Erik moves to his new apartment on Saturday so that’s very exciting! I am also in the process of getting together lighting equipment (likely this one – thoughts?!) to get this studio in 100% filming ready conditions!

I recently put these twinkle lights on my bay windows and the lighting is seriously perfect at night! I’ve been snapping a lot more which has been fun. I like how raw, unfiltered I can be. Also, I can kinda give you a peak on how I cook & my approach to cooking before I really dive into things here. Hang w/ me: @shnnnlynn – I have tons of wellness tips too.

This week, I made {& snapped!}: zoodles w/ ground turkey & a checca sauce (8 ingredients), Mediterranean turkey burgers in a whole wheat pita & yogurt (8 ingreds), sunchoke soup (7 ingreds), & grilled pork chops (4 ingredients).

Pretty much, I use as little ingredients as possible to really let the flavour of each component to shine. I recently bought this cookbook when we were in Sonoma for New Year’s and it has inspired me in a major way to keep things simple, yet elegant.

I’m thinking of doing a cookbook club here starting next month where I feature a cookbook each month and post a recipe from it weekly. Let me know what you think! The more the merrier if anyone wants to play. Let me know.

ANYWAYS, let’s get into the song. This song has been on repeat all week. To be honest, it’s not new – circa 2013 – but remember, great music is timeless. Though this has been a long-time favourite, I’ve especially been digging on it this week.

For starters, it’s one of the most htpnotizing, tantalizing songs out there. Really, it’s brilliantly made.

Tourist is a british producer named William Phillips. Prior to going solo, he was affiliated on a Disclosure album and co-wrote “Stay with Me” by Sam Smith, which would later win him a Grammy.

So this song is one that just gets better and better by the second as it builds upon itself brilliantly. The song only says two things: “we should be together” & “should’ve”. In fact, “We should be together” is said 46 times throughout the whole song.

He mixes electronica with emotion. In fact, he likes to tell his personal story through it. So this is crazy but he recorded sounds that were monumental to him such as “…the fall of footsteps walking away from his London flat where they had a big fight, or the crashing of waves at Brighton beach where he and his ex-girlfriend first met.” { source }

In fact, even the Genius on this song said that this is the saddest house song ever. I feel like the mood changes through the song, where “We should be together” transitions from a statement to a plea. The synths in the background are brilliant, as well.

….and when it ends, it leaves you just craving more. Press repeat one, you’ll need it for this one.

Have a great weekend, y’all. Other than helping Erik move, I just have some blog work & a fun photoshoot! Low key weekend for sure. How about you, any plans?

PS – my app where I put the songs on my insta is broken 🙁 so unfortunately, those posts will be on a hiatus for now until it gets fixed. If anyone has another app they recommend, let me know. I was using Splice.

That’s how I connected with @future_vizion - not only is he BEYOND talented {seriously, check out his profile}, he has such a unique eye and perspective... not to mention it’s kind of totally rad making friends around the world, especially in a city I’m so passionate about! #slstokyo
