CURRENTLY LOVING: Tortoise Shell Hair Accessories

move over, pearl barrettes

I spend a lot {a lottttttt} of time on Pinterest.

In fact, it’s the social media outlet I use the most, even more than instagram.

I have my reasons & can do a full blown post but a cliff notes version? Like I said here – I’m VERY moved by aesthetics. It’s very engrained in my personality. It’s a very positive source for me and as an introvert, I appreciate the lack of DMs. Sure, you can message on Pinterest but no one does {thank g} & it’s nothing like DMs. Instead, the focus is on straight up aesthetics without all the noise and chatter.

& it has been a GAME CHANGER!!! Being surrounded by the beauty of aesthetics without any of the noise has been crucial for me & it’s a huge source of inspiration for me. In fact, it’s the caveat to this post about being offline… pinterest is the one exception!

Anyways, I was casually scrolling on Pinterest & came across the chicest photo of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy wearing a TORTOISE SHELL HEADBAND. { check out my _muses board for more! }

I immediately got on amazon to find one. I wasn’t too successful {@colette.prime help a sister out?!} BUT I did find these tortoise shell barrettes.

TORTOISE SHELL BARRETTES !

So nostalgic right?! I feel like these just scream 90s. I know for a fact I had these during the 90s and early 00s. Did you?!

I also love how minimal they look & truly look good on everyone. So simple, perfect with the transition into fall, but truly timeless. If the glitzy iced out barettes aren’t your style, look for toirtoise shell!

The options are endless too: clips, claws, barrettes, headbands, you name it. The outfits to wear them with are endless but I personally like a minimal look: a black / white / nude turtleneck or slouchy knit with sustainable jeans or trousers is always a win in my book. Big fan of layering too. Check out my _fashion board!

I also love how they look with some chic tortoiseshell sunnies. I just ordered the Sophie Rose in Chocolate Chip by Tezza and ob-sessed. Seriously, they deserve a post of their own & I always do what I can to support the influencers who inspire me & I look up to. I just dore the added 90s vibe they give with the barrettes!

Oh & to make it even better: these barrettes were less than $2 on Amazon so I threw them in with my latest order {pumpkin cat food for Lucy to try, cutie pastel lids & spoon for the cat food, adaptogenic coffee bc I’m trying to ween off coffee, & mushroom tea to help me sleep better… in case you’re curious – might be a fun blog series!!}

…not to mention, you can find these and many others at any local drugstore! Like you could literally do this today!

You’ll be seeing tortoise shell hair accessories often on instagram!! And I’m on the hunt for allllll the clips and that chic thick headband so if you have any leads, let me know. Also loving a tortoise shell claw for an impromptu updo {like this} with a slinky white mockneck.

Are you loving tortoise shell as much as I am??

    I’ve been wearing my hair back in a clip lately for a smarter look for work 🙂 I’m definitely gonna try these out because they look really simple to use and an easy way to hold back my long hair!

    Yes tortoise shell is very classic and very high fashion. Very Audrey Hepburn. And yes I hear you about the chatter. I have a love/hate relationship with IG. And there has been a bit of a backlash against it as of late.

      Very Audrey – that’s how you know it’s a classic. & yessss I’m going to do a post soon on navigating instagram as an introvert because it can either be insanely rewarding or insanely draining soon. always seems to be some new backlash! x
