WHAT TO WATCH ON NETFLIX • APRIL 2019

What to watch on Netflix, May 2019 • Zima Blue from Love, Death & Robots {essellesse, a San Francisco based lifestyle blog}

I can’t believe this is the last full week of April! Seriously, this year is going by SO FAST, it’s wild.

That said- we are about to get into my birthday month!!! I blame my love language but I take birthdays annoyingly seriously & we have a fun vacay planned for the end of May that I’ve been counting down the seconds to.

Anyways, Erik & I have been watching a LOT of Netflix this month so here is everything we’ve watched… & enjoyed!

Quick recap: we tend to like dramas, documentaries, throwbacks… but a lot of our pics tend to be NSFW / MA… so heads up if you have any little ones.

What to watch on Netflix!

What to watch on Netflix, May 2019 • Zima Blue from Love, Death & Robots {essellesse, a San Francisco based lifestyle blog}

Love, Death, & Robots: When I was in Denver, my best friend & her boyfriend introduced me to this show. I made her stop at the first episode bc I KNEW I had to watch it with Erik! Each episode is 6-15 minutes long & are completely unrelated so you can watch them in any order. Zima Blue was one of the best things on TV I’ve ever seen. If you watch anything on this list, watch Zima Blue. I think about it daily & it really made me feel.

Legally Blonde: LOVE a good throwback! This is a 2000s classic that is still worth the watch today. It’s empowering to see Elle take the world by her own hands. Not to mention, I think Luke Wilson is SO HOT. It’s also a good watch for 2000s fashion inspo & funny enough for guys too {which I think guys secretly like these shows/movies, Erik has been lingering a little too long when I have Gossip Girl on in the other room}! In fact, for my high school graduation, my family gave me that exact Tiffany’s choker!! I’ll have to find it when I go through all my old clothes next time I’m in The Woodlands {you better believe I’m going to sell / keep some of the true y2k gems!}

The Dirt: Erik & I watched this on a whim & really enjoyed it! It’s a film that tells the story of Motley Crue & their rise to fame. Lots of sex, drugs, & rock and roll… and of course I loved that it was set in the 80s!

Our Planet: We are constantly watching nature documentaries – it’s something we’ve watched since 2014! This is a brand new one on Netflix. It’s all so interesting & I love really getting to know our planet… though be warned, it shows some hard truth on the impact of humanity on the Earth.

The Assassination of Gianni Versace: OKAY so Erik & I watched this like a year ago on FX and we saw it was on Netflix & thought it was a second season so we rewatched it. It wasn’t, but it’s SO GOOD & worth the second watch. It follows Andrew Cunanan, his murder sprees including the late Gianni Versace, & Darren Criss who plays him is absolutely incredible. If you liked You, you’ll enjoy this. Not to mention, the aesthetics are out of this WORLD.

Blue Planet II: Again, we love our nature documentaries. This one really focuses on the ocean. Erik & I have a mini joke that I’m more outer space & he’s more the ocean… that said, we are obsessed with learning about both of them. This is a fascinating documentary that’s perfect to watch on days you want to just chill out.

Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes :: so next month, the Ted Bundy movie {starring Zac Efron} is hitting Netflix. To be honest, I actually didn’t know the whole story – I actually had it completely wrong. This has archival footage & interviews with Bundy himself. Be warned, this show & especially the first few episodes are TERRIFYING & just bone chilling. I don’t get scared easily but we turned on some Blue Ocean after some of the episodes to reset what we just watched.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs: this was SO GOOD! A fantastic western from the Coen Brothers. If you like Fargo or Django Unchained, you will love this. It follows 6 stories in the post-Civil War era. This is a fun date night one & I promise your boyfriend or husband will love it.

Oasis: Supersonic: A movie documentary on Oasis & follows the Gallagher brothers through their creativity & chaos. Oasis always makes me think of Erik so this was a fun one to watch with him.

The Other One: The Long Strange Trip of Bob Weir: A lot of music documentaries! Personally, I love them – they are so iconic for the era. In fact, an outlandish goal I have is to be involved with a certain one lol {can you guess who??} BUT back to the topic at hand. This follows Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead, the 60s, his relationship with Jerry Garcia & psychedelics. A great watch & fun that it was the Bay Area too!

**Not on Netflix** Barry on HBO: so I wanted to include an HBO find that Erik & I randomly stumbled and finished this week. It follows a midwest hitman who follows a target to Los Angeles & an acting school where he actually falls in love with acting. If you liked Dexter, you’ll enjoy this.

Any fun weekend plans?

We are off to Healdsburg for a wine pick up party at one of our usual wineries so we’ll make that a day there. Any reccs?

Last weekend we went on a day trip to Pacifica for some famous crab sandwiches – been loving visiting other Northern California towns! Then, I got brunch with my gf Colette at a vegetarian restaurant in SF I’ve been dying to try called GREENS. highly recc if you’re in SF – vegetarian or not!

Have a great weekend! What are you watching these days??

  • one of my fav things about aromatherapy is how different scents appeal to you depending on how you’re feeling. Eucalyptus smelling particularly good right now? it well help bring the clarity you’re craving . Chamomile for tonight? this will make it easier to decompress & relax. 🧖🏻‍♀️ I love the aromatherapy from @aeraforhome - I use the oils on my wrists & in the bath as well as with their seriously smart diffuser for home. It brings a nice luxe hotel vibe & can always set the mood. The diffuser is sleek, chic, & smart: you can connect it to wifi & Alexa to control and adjust! All of Aera’s scents are hypoallergenic, non toxic, cleans, & completely pet safe.
