I make this chilled out bevvy every single night to wind down!

Not only have I been sleeping better {& earlier!}, I’ve been waking up much, much easier… & also earlier!

These days, I’m asleep by 9:30/10p & up and at it at 6:00a, ready to take on the day.

I haven’t always been like this though. I used to take damn long to wake up and get going with the day, groggily going upstairs to make coffee. I’ve been zinging right out of bed, & I have no question that it has to do with this beverage because it’s really the only change to my routine.

Every single night, I make tea for Erik & myself in the chemex. This blend I made has been a game changer for the two of us. It’s kind of nice because it’s become a bit of a nightly tradition too that we always look forward to. I talk a bit more on the chemex here but I love ours since it’s the perfect size for two.

I generally reach for peppermint or chamomile to relax so figured why not mix them together?

Last month, I restarted an old habit: magnesium! I totally forgot how freaking amazing it makes us both feel!

I call this my chilled out beverage because it really chills me out!! It basically makes life feel like this playlist {one of my favs at night btw, suuuuuuch a mood}:

also, LOVE “Youtube Music” for music !!!

shannon’s chilled out nightly drink

ingredients per person

1 tsp of magnesium {i like natural calm, unflavored}

1 package of Reishi Mushroom “Chill” elixir

1 teabag of chamomile tea

1 teabag of peppermint tea

in whatever container you’re making everything, add magnesium & mushroom powder. I use a chemex but you can also do individual tea mugs!

Boil water & add a slow and small amount. The magnesium will fizz a bit & the Reishi will dissolve completely. Once it’s finished fizzing & dissolved, add the rest of the water & let the teas steep, 3-5 minutes.

Sip & enjoy!

natural calm magnesium {unflavored}: Magnesium is more than just a mineral, but an essential component of the body proven to reduce the symptoms of insomnia, fatigue, chronic pain, & encourage a peaceful sleep. Perfect to take at night! I love the unflavored since it easily mixes in tea. Erik also likes to take some in the morning before he golfs 🙂

four sigmatic mushroom elixir chill with reishi ingredients: organic reishi etrct, field mint, rose hips, organic tulsi

four sigmatic chill reishi mushroom powder: this is a blend of reishi mushrooms, rose hip, holy basil, & wild mint. LOVE this combo!!! When taken in consistent small doses, reishi really relieves stress & aids sleep. I can absolutely tell a difference when I take it. Something about it just really winds me down. I also think this has helped me feeling bright eyed, zippy, & refreshed the next morning. This would also be great to bring on a plane for a red eye! The taste is pretty earthy, which I don’t mind!! But you can mask it by mixing with teas, decaf coffee – it’s also delicious with cacao tea 🙂

organic chamomile tea: it’s no secret that chamomile is so calming! I love the subtle sweetness of it too so it’s fun to blend with the peppermint below. Chamomile aids sleep & digestion, as well as stress & anxiety relief. It’s one of those teas that make you feel better with every single sip! It blends well with almost every tea, also.

+ buy Chamomile Tea !

harney & son’s organic peppermint tea: this is my absolute fav peppermint tea! When I went to University of Houston, this was the tea they served so it’s super nostalgic… & I find it tastes the best! I LOVEEEEE mint – in fact, it’s one of my fav ice cream flavours… esp mixed with a little vanilla, yum! Mint tea helps calm the mind, aids digestion, & helps relieve stress. Whenever I don’t know what tea I want to drink, I ALWAYS turn to peppermint! { ps – this blended with chocolate tea?? pure heaven }

I’ve been making this with teabags, but going forward {with the exception of the Chill Reishi powder}, I’m buying looseleaf for my Chemex!

I just bought the Harney & Son’s loose leaf peppermint & on the hunt for a good chamomile if you have any reccs.

Basically with looseleaf, I add magnesium & mushroom powder to the chemex & make the tea the same way as I make my coffee! If I’m feeling a little wild, I’ll add some blue lotus to the mix but that, my friends, is a post for another day.

How do you wind down at night?

    Dang that sounds like a killer blend; I usually have them separately & never thought to put them together. I need to stock up on some Four Sigmatic. :]

    This is a very nice recipe here, I should definitely try it as I sometimes have a difficulty falling asleep as I spend all day in front of the computer screen. I personally love a good looseleaf tea, so it is nice that you can actually mix it with magnesium too. Thanks for the tips! And looking at that view, I honestly miss my San Fran days so much! xx

    This sounds so delicious! In the Winters I usually get on a chamomile kick, and I’ve been a fan of the Natural Calm gummies for quite some time, but I’ve never tried the powder form and I’ve certainly never thought to mix all these things together – so smart! Starbucks ought to hire you asap ha!

      ooooh I never tried the gummies!! I’ll have to give them a go next time. I might get fired from Starbucks for chilling everyone out instead of getting them amped on caffeine lol! Thanks for reading, Mary-Katherine <3
