the lazy luxury way to cover up a swimsuit + my vintage picks

an excuse to steal your boyfriend's clothes

Okay so I know it’s Fall but this time of the year is truly when summer hits in San Francisco. In fact, I’m typing this in the middle of a heat wave!

September & especially October are GORGEOUS months here, weather-wise. These two months are some of the warmest & sunniest {despite the random 30 second rain this past week?} – it truly feels like summer.

SO- if you’re headed up Northern California for a vaca and plan on hitting the pool {which tbh sounds perfect} or even hitting the beaches here, I wanted to share my fave ways to cover a swimsuit.

We basically spent the entirety of our California Road Trip by the beach & ocean. I’ll break down where we went in separate posts since it’s just a LOT but we hit up Big Sur, Pismo Beach, Santa Monica, & Santa Barbara.

This trip was pureeee leisure. Sure, we threw in a photoshoot every now and then but we we spent it mostly on the beach just watching the water & the waves.

I was probably in a swimsuit daily so I wanted to show my 2 fave ways I cover-upped my swimsuit!

It’s super easy-breezy & tbh you can probably steal things from your boyfriends closet {& just tell him it’s the lazy luxury way}

{ option one }: an oversized half zip

I looooooooveeeee half zips!! Once it gets cool enough here in SF {so after sunset & in the morning lol}, this is basically all I will be wearing. half zips galore!!

The ways to style them are endless but in a place like California where it’s pretty windy when you get oceanside {not to mention, the Pacific Ocean is cold}, this is perfect to throw on over a swimsuit.

Do it my way & find one from a local gift shop or hotel or winery – more here but it’s a fun way to create your own personal vintage closet of travels over the years!

I feel like this has such an 80s vibe too, which we know I’m into.

{ option two }: a men’s dress shirt

I haven’t adequately expressed my love for men’s shirts BUT I LOVE MEN’S SHIRTS. I love how oversized they fit on and trust me – the options to wear them are endless.

Like, you can wear them backwards for a chic mockneck orrrr wear over a swimsuit!

If they’re long enough, sometimes I won’t even put on pants for the beach! Just button a random button & you are good to go.

Here, I’m wearing a vintage Dior button down. Fun fact, but I collect these shirts and currently have 4 of them. I just love the white banker’s collar, linen fabric, & pastel hues.

I cannot recc depop enough to find good men’s shirts – at this point, I probably have more in my closet than Erik LOL. My personal favourite brand to search for on depop is Zegna. See me in it here!

I cannot reiterate enough how beautiful it is here in Northern California this time of the year. San Francisco is a dream from now until October but so is Napa & Sonoma especially.

If you’re considering visiting San Francisco or Napa or Sonoma, get on out here!!

& if you are looking for a good pool, I canNOT recc Indian Springs Calistoga enough.

What are your go to ways to cover up a swimsuit?
