Over the past few years, I’ve heard alllllll the hype on dry brushing & if we are being quite honest, I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to get on board.

A few months ago, Prana Brush sent me one of their ionic dry brushes! Intriguing, right?! Pretty rad & the excuse I needed to get it started.

I AM WISHING I STARTED BACK IN 2014 WHEN I FIRST HEARD OF IT.

With anything I put on the blog, I really like to give it time to see both long & short term effects. Not only are the effects immediate, but with regular use, it just gets better & better.

Not only does it physically make your skin look better, but it does so much for your body inside & out. And the ionic brush just takes all the benefits to the next level.

First things first, it’s an awesome way to exfoliate and rid yourself of dead skin cells. Immediately after, your skin will have a nice glow to it. Speaking of that glow, it helps increase circulation. Dry brushing also helps fight cellulite, which really makes sense since it both exfoliates & stimultes circulation, you know?

It also wakes up the nervous system & gives you a nice burst of energy. Seriously, try dry brushing in the morning before your shower. Kinda like a nice perk before your coffee! If we are being honest, it’s sliiiightly addicting 😉

Finally, it really stimulates the lymphatic system. This helps rid the body of excess fluid. Not only is this great for detoxification, but it’s so important to promote immunity & balance hormones. I also like to dry brush after flights. I find I’m sooo swollen after traveling {blame it on the in flight ‘pagne} at i makes me feel instantly less puffy.

If you think about it, we exfoliate our face quite often. I know I do it 2-3x a week, so why not do the same for your body? Just as our face can have clogged pores & dead cells, so does our body as a whole.

Combine all of the above & you have a preventative aging technique. This will help keep skin taut & youthful, all over.

What is dry brushing?

Exactly what it sounds like!

On dry skin, take a body brush and brush towards your heart. This si what helps improve circulation & brings that burst of energy.

Basically, you brush everywhere but your face. A body brush is like a hair brush but made for the body. For a more effective dry brush, try an ion-charged body brush!

What’s an Ionic Body Brush?

Basically, Prana Brush is pretty rad if I do say so myself. They are made with extra fine ion0-charged copper bristles which naturally create negative ions. Basically, these ions protect the body from free radicals. They also encourage immediate absorption of the ions so the benefits mentioned above are multiplied.

How to dry brush

With gentle, smooth strokes, brush towards your heart. Start with your feet & work your way up and inward. Brushing this direction will have the most beneficial effects since it’s the way lymph flows in your body. As you get to your stomach, brush in a clockwise direction.

Timing wise, it should take about 3-5 minutes. I like to do it before the shower so you can wash off all the dead skin cells. Afterwards, I follow with a nourishing body oil. This one from Fiji is my favourite {& you can order it from amazon! more on dilo oil here}.

As you start, go slow & soft. As your skin gets used to it, apply more pressure.

Be sure to not brush over any cuts or wounds & be sure to wash brush with each use!

It’s a new obsession & has become a morning routine. I bring my little brush with me traveling all the time, & I’m borderline addicted. It has made waking up in the morning slightly easier. You HAVE to give it a go.
