Ginger Turmeric Hummus + “Everything” Pita Chips!

This ginger turmeric hummus recipe is SO GOOD, it’s unreal.

It’s legit so good that the first time I made it, Erik & I finished the ENTIRE thing.

I LOVE hummus – it’s one of my all time favourite snacks.  It can literally go with EVERYTHING: toast, veggies, in a sandwich/wrap, tossed with pasta, even as a coating on chicken before you bake it.

Not only is it super healthy, but it is suuuper easy to customize & can really go well with almost anything and everything.

It’s also hella cheap to make… MUCH cheaper to make than buy & it’s SO MUCH better. Did I also mention that it takes takes like 10 seconds to make? My kinda recipe.

Most hummus is made with Tahini. Between me and you, I’m not the biggest fan of the ingredient. It’s a bit caloric & I’m not crazy about the taste – totally subjective, I know!

That said, I don’t keep tahini on hand. As mentioned here & here, I try to make do with what I have vs running to the store to get tahini to make this ONE TIME.

That’s where I got the idea… ginger turmeric hummus!

Instead, I subbed it with fresh ginger & ground turmeric. Fresh turmeric prepped like the ginger would work just fine. and would honestly be even better!

All I did was peel the ginger & roughly chop, as well as the garlic. Since it’s going in a food processor or blender, the chop doesn’t have to be perfect & ohhhh how I love that!

Then, in a food processor / blender, PULSE {don’t blend} the chickpeas, lemon, garlic, ginger, turmeric, salt, pepper, & olive oil together. You want to PULSE it so it has a nice texture & it doesn’t get too gummy {that word alone is so gross & enough to keep you pulsing it lol}.

Basically, pulse it a few times, then take a spoon to incorporate it until it’s the texture of your liking. On a scale from 1 to silky smooth and 5 to chunky, I like mine at a 2.5. Does this make sense?!

The other thing I do that makes takes this hummus from good to next level is that I peel the chickpeas! Each and every little chickpea gets the extra skin peeled off. It takes about ten extra minutes but I promise it’s worth the effort. Just take the chickpea in your thumb and index finger and pinch it out!

This is what will make your hummus velvety instead of grainy.

As far as any other ingredients – use as much or as little as you’d like! All this has is chickpeas / garbanzo beans, turmeric, ginger, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice & cayenne.

The chips too are SUPER easy and way better than anything you can get from the store. All you do is take pita bread {I did whole wheat} & slice / tear into small pieces. Brush the tops with some garlic olive oil, sprinkle with my superfood everything seasoning {the one from TJ’s works just fine too!!} & bake until crisp for about 15 minutes.

To make the garlic olive oil, smash a garlic clove & put it in a small container with the olive oil. Let it sit for like 10 minutes. When I make this, I prep the olive oil first, then I go and peel the chickpeas.

OH! I almost forgot the best part. After the hummus is made, top it with olive oil & cayenne. The cayenne is a fun spicy touch instead of the classic paprika but is also SO good for you and your  metabolism.

If you have extra lemon & ginger on hand, this is my favourite way to use them – esp in the hotter months if you live somewhere that isn’t San Francisco… aka it’s almost June and I’m in a hoodie.
