Happy Monday!!

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Our weekend was spent enjoying the Fleet Week show here in San Francisco!

Erik & I live right on the cusp of the Marina District & Cow Hollow {check out my Union Street reccs!} so our roof was a primo, private place to watch the show together.

Erik LOVES Fleet Week! However, year after year, he’s had to travel during Fleet Week weekend so it was our first one to watch together just the two of us. When I first moved here to SF, I was all into the big rooftop parties but these days, I prefer something much more intimate & small.

SO- we decided to host a two day long fleet week rooftop party for the two of us!!

& it was an absolute blast.

First things first, we planned the menu for LOTS of grilling. I stocked up on hot dogs, sausages, ground beef, & a ribeye. Yup – it was a lot & yup we ate it all!

Honestly, I wanted a lot so we can grill laissez faire as we watched the show. Very casual, very lazy luxury.

We saved some special bottles of wine like our Foxen 7200 Volpino Rosato {rosé!} & Artesa Sparkling Grand Reserve Brut Rosé. We are huge fans of Foxen so when we were in Santa Barbara, we visited and jointed their wine club. The Artesa bottle we got in Napa when we went for New Years this past December – you have to try it, it’s fantastic. We were saving it for something special, & this weekend was the perfect something special!

Throughout the day, we snacked on chips with spicy salsa, as we grilled while the planes flew by. I am OBSESSED (ob.sessssedddd) with Casa Chicas Spicy Salsa – it’s great to top your burgers & hot dogs with… in fact, I love this instead of ketchup!

On our radio, we listened to Allah-Las Radio on Pandora on Saturday & it reallllly set the chill Saturday party vibe! On Sunday, we turned to Thomas Jack {basically this tropical house playlist} but as soon as the Blue Angels came, Erik turned on the Fleet Week Broadcast on his iPad.

It was my first time to watch fleet week with the broadcast, but it was so cool! They tell you exactly what the planes are doing, & pair the trick with music. It was such a treat & I’m so glad Erik found it! Super fun to watch from afar too!

I also wanted to share some of my tips for hosting a party for two. It’s very easy to get caught up in the familiarity of living together, that sometimes a little extra effort can go a long way!

essellesse easy entertaining for two tips

think of a theme and plan around it! Our big theme was grilling, so we made sure we had enough for the two of us {& plenty more for seconds… or thirds!} but also planned out our menu to include our drinks {rose! soooo so dang good with grilled meats}, as well as snacks {which we went light on}. We grilled every night for dinner also, so even though Fleet Week was over, dinner still felt exciting & like the main event!

on that note, have plenty of food! That may seem obvious, but think about parties you go to, there generally is a ton of food set up & you can graze as you like. We scaled that down for two, but having anything to grab and munch on whether it was 12:00p or 4:30p or 6:30p… it really added to the “party vibe”.

set everything up! Generally when we grill or even have dinner nightly, there really is no formal set up. Each day, we set up all of our snacks, beverages, plates, napkins, everything. Kind of like the above, it was nice to grab a plate of whatever we wanted when we wanted. You don’t need to go all out at all, just have everything ready to be used! We did the bare minimum this weekend, & it still felt a little extra 🙂

Have apps to share!! Post on this another day but the best, most intimate dishes are the ones to share. It can be as simple as chips & salsa, or something more like a prime dip sandwich {share the au jus}. It adds an unexpected, fun intimacy to things.

this may sound silly, but always be the one to refill your partner’s drink! This is actually etiquette I learned in Japan: pour your drinking partner’s drink & let them do it for you too. This is something Erik & I try to do every dinner & it never ceases to feel less special. <3

my absolute fave photo from the weekend <3

Special touches throughout the familiar day can go a long, long way. And the best part? Many times than not, it’s all free, easy things to do!

Fun fact, but when I first started this blog in 2015, I wanted it to be a source for Entertaining for Two. While I posed many recipes {always designed for two & always have minimal, fresh ingredients}, I never really talked about little things you can do at home to make things more special.

If you’re in SF, I hope you had a lovely fleet week! Do you have any tips for keeping things fun & “entertaining for two” in your home? I’d love to hear!

See ya tomorrow,
