VINTAGE SHOPPING • 5 Depop Shops I love

San Francisco Lifestyle blogger, Shannon Silver of essellesse talks vintage shopping on Depop & her favourite shops!

I do about 90% of my shopping on Depop. It’s no secret I have a love affair with the 80s – Y2K but let me tell you… that lil app is a GOLDMINE.

It’s one of the best places next to Tokyo to shop vintage and you can do it from the comfort of your own home!

What is Depop?

It’s an app kind of like instagram for vintage shopping really. Basically, people list photos / videos of their items and you can shop their closet. It’s all connected via Paypal so the transactions are secure. Within the app, you can shop, browse, follow friends / influencers / celebrities even, & review items.

It’s soooo much easier than going into vintage stores in person & you can find some MAJOR DEALS. I find it’s easier to find the hidden gem and nice to search what you are looking for vs going through heaps of clothing.

Vintage shopping can get pretty overwhelming, especially if you aren’t totally sure what you are looking for. The search bar alone on Depop and searching hashtags and brands can make it that much easier.

Some scores I’ve gotten from Depop (all for under $100):

these Prada kitten heels, these Gucci sleds from the 90s, these Ferragamo heels from the 80s, a men’s Christian Dior tweed blazer {soooo stoked to wear this for Fall – comes in tomm!}, a rad Victoria’s Secret robe from the 80’s {new obsession} that has all the Gucci vibes, Zegna button downs, a coca cola rugby designed by Tommy Hilfiger in the 80s, & a bunch of Von Dutch swag.

As mentioned here, I stopped buying according to size. Instead, I buy how I want the item to fit on me. Sometimes I buy Men’s XL, and sometimes I buy women’s small… but more times than not, it’s the former. I like looser fitting clothes since they can be so versatile with styling. My advice is if you see a gem that’s priced damn good & unsure about the size: get it if it may be bigger than looking for and pass on smaller sized items. Less risky, you know? I’ll go for a men’s XL before I ever go for a women’s XS {HARD PASS}. I also find that vintage clothing generally fits smaller than the designated size.

In the future, I’ll  do a full blown post on my tips & things I look for on Depop {I have a full on process}. However today, I wanted to share some of my favourite stores with you on Depop.

Lavender Smoke

Her shop is absolutely stunning! I love how she organizes her caption. Each caption, she clearly states what decade her pieces are from, as well as the brand, material, and measurements. I appreciate shops with a strong aesthetic and hers is stunning. She also does discounted bundles & you can find some gems from the 70’s – 90s here.

Not only is her shop gorgeous but she uses Eco packaging & offers free shipping on Tuesdays and Fridays… not to mention, her shipping is FAST. This shop is full of awesome vintage pieces, and especially silky slinky fabrics. Think silk, velvet, & pastel colours. I’m lusting over the silk escada pants right now! PS – she offers a nice discount if you follow her on Instagram!!

Speaking of retro Victoria’s Secret, this is one of the best vintage lingerie shops I’ve found. All of the items are just stunning & some pretty rare items. This shop is perfect for lingerie to wear for a sexy night in or a spicy night out – versatile pieces! 😉  There is also a nice selection of everyday items too.

  • did you guys miss the glitché? I know it’s so 2017 but I lowkey missed it. Anyways that’s not why we are here but this dope gem of a wine from @domaineenchantoir is. This wine is SO GOOD that on first sip, @erikschuchard & I bought a case on @klwines and had it delivered to us in less than 24 hours, it’s that good.
🔻
2015 DOMAINE DE L’ENCHANTOIR “LE PIED À L’ÉTRIER” SAUMUR PUY-NOTRE-DAME ROUGE {~$17 !!!! } :: fun fact, but this winery is certified organic. Cool right? Anyways, like most in the middle Loire Valley, Cabernet Franc is the star & this wine is 100% cab franc. Super fragrant! The first thing I thought of when I tried it was leather studded rose petals. There are also notes of tobacco, black cherry, black tea, cranberry, & hibiscus. One thing to note is that there is NO green pepper on the note or palette. Seriously, it’s not vegetal at all bc it’s not a regular cab franc, it’s a cool cab franc. But seriously this wine will blow your mind and rock your world at the same time. Also I want a perfume in this, like who doesn’t want to smell like a leather studded rose?
🔺
It’s very food friendly but good on its own. Medium bodied and extremely well balanced. It pairs well with charcuterie, smoked fish, grilled meats or vegetables, & sunsets. We’ve been on a grilled pizza kick which would be so good with this too! Grilled Thai or Vietnamese dishes would also be off the charts.
🔻
Y’all. I can’t even scratch the surface on how good this wine is. It seriously gets better with each sip. If you see it, BUY IT. If you can’t find it, look online. I got along without it before I met it but I sure as hell couldn’t do it now. 🍷 #trustmeimasomm
